One of its key features is the automatic addition of watermarks to printed documents. These watermarks can embed dynamic user-specific information—such as computer name, username, and IP address—directly onto each printed page, serving as a visual reminder for employees to handle hard copies with care and remain mindful of data confidentiality. The watermark function is fully configurable by administrators, who can choose to apply it selectively to specific applications or specific users rather than enforcing it across all print jobs, allowing organizations to balance security with operational flexibility.

Beyond watermarking, Curtain PrintTrail offers IT system administrators a simple, easy-to-use, and cost-effective logging solution for print activities. The software captures detailed metadata for every print job, including date and time, username, computer name, filename, file path, printer name, number of pages printed, and the application used. For users who handle or print sensitive documents, administrators can enable the Printout Snapshot function, which records the actual visual content of each printout, providing an image-based log of exactly what was printed.
